Video game studio – Video game developer : Eden Games - France
Created in 1998 as EDEN Studios the company has been founded to design and develop video game software for Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft consoles. The Managing Director is David NADAL.
Prior to January 4, 1998, EDEN was one of the most successful in-house development teams within the Infogrames Group (now ATARI). This is the reason why most of EDEN’s developers have many years of experience in video game development, and are the creators of famous titles such as Asterix The Gaul, The Smurfs, Tintin and the world-wide success: V-Rally.
In 1998, EDEN began its activity by signing 2 contracts with Infogrames, which enabled EDEN to create the Nintendo 64 version of V-Rally, while developing new technologies for V-Rally 2 on PlayStation. This title, released in June 1999, confirmed the success of the V-Rally range and allowed EDEN to grow rapidly. The company went from 12 to 85 employees in 5 years of existence.
In 1999, EDEN asserted its independence by signing a publishing agreement with Electronic Arts for the game “Need For Speed Porsche” on PlayStation, released in 2000. This same year, EDEN benefited from the V-Rally 2 success by releasing consecutively the Dreamcast and PC versions of the same title.
Since its creation, EDEN has attracted game developers coming from leading game companies. EDEN is committed to recruiting new talented Artists and Engineers to enhance its production and to strengthen its leading role among the French developers. In order to minimize the internal costs, nearly 50% of the graphical or sound elements are developed by external artists, who are managed by the internal Art Directors and Game Directors.
EDEN was always working at pushing itself forward mainly by following the technologic breakthroughs. Thus in 2000 EDEN developed its games on PlayStation2, Xbox and Game Cube.
The other major project that was signed is an action/adventure game based on original characters: KYA: Dark Lineage which was released worldwide in November 2003.
In May 2002, Stéphane BAUDET, Frédéric JAY and David NADAL decided to sell their company to the Infogrames Group which already held 19,8% of EDEN Studios, in order to concentrate their efforts on what they liked most: to come up with new games based on innovative game play and advanced technologies.
In September 2003, Eden Studios communicates with the name Eden Games to be identified to the video game industry.
As of that period, a third Eden team develops a game based on Titeuf, a famous French comic book character, on PlayStation 2, PC and Game Boy Advance.
Titeuf Mega Compet’ went out in September 24th 2004.
In September 2006 Eden was still innovating with Test Drive Unlimited which let’s the gamers race over more than 1000 miles of diverse, photo-realistic Hawaiian terrain and with Alone in the Dark which gives action games new artistic and technologic features.
Combining technology, experience and diversification, Eden Games finds itself in a good position to stay one of the leaders in the video game industry.
